The gibli exhibition was excellent and the museum the ideal place to show it. Long queue to get in so might be better to wait until after the GW holiday when you can look at everything moving along at a more leisurely pace.
MoreVery good museum with excellent exhibitions.
A place not to be missed when you're in Fukuoka. Fantastic museum experience!
A special Samurai Exhibition was being displayed dating from 6th Century. Fantastic.
MoreSome interesting items
8/9 would come again! There are often special exhibitions that are sometimes a bit pricey, but the general exhibition is only 200 yen and is decent!
MoreVisited for the Ghibli exhibit and had a great time.
may be I'm not a history/museum lover ... can't say anything here .... :(
quiet location, neat restaurent and cafe, good exhinition
Free entry for the main gallery's.
Nice Museum with different exhibitions. Until June 2019 they are exhibiting a Ghibli exhibition which has a lot of interesting items to show. From the beginning until recent endeavors.
MoreLove the place very much. Historical place and very scenics
Good museum near sea.
Excellent museum detailing the history of Fukuoka. There are informational panels and several short documentary clips that describe the major eras, events, and people that shaped Fukuoka to what it is now. A great stop (1-2 hours) for history junkies who want to know a little bit about Fukuoka.
MoreSpent a great deal of time at the permanent exhibition site. If you are a visitor that cannot read English, the audio guide is a must. However, there are parts that are not covered by the audio guide. Some of the guide missed some key information, such as the Mongols being hindered by typhoons during their assaults on Japan. Overall, there is plenty of information and a good place to spend a few hours.
MorePermanent exhibition focuses on the history of Fukuoka, includes topics such as the King of Na gold seal (National Treasure), the Kuroda clan, and the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. ¥200 admission. Nice place to swing by on the way to the beach. Recommended if you like history. Can easily spend 90 minutes here. Environment is family friendly. Many moms brought their kids here. But the displays are not very interactive, so not very suitable for younger kids. They may get bored.
MoreAmazing museum. Easy to get to. Beautiful landscaping outside and in.
Not enough English explanations
The museum showed the history of Fukuoka detailed. It is informative and you may be learnt a lot from the museum. Also, there are special events from time to time as well.
MoreGreat Ghibli exhibit, but they wouldn't allow photography
Good place to know more about Japanese culture.
Hands down one of the finest museum experiences. It is super amazing how minutest details have been preserved since a very long time ago and the presentation is just fantastic. Must visit for a Fukuoka resident
MoreA good museum, takes around a couple of hours to visit. Wish they had more on social history and more recent times history.
MoreWonderful place to spend a few hours!Exhibitions are very interesting and informative.
MoreThere is a Studio Ghibli exhibition until June 23. I really recommend to visit there! I was there during Golden week and waited two hours to see the exhibition. But after Golden week you won't need to wait I guess. The ticket cost 1400 yen so I think it's expensive because you can only see the special exhibition not the permanent exhibitions. Pippi Långstrum exhibition is coming later.
MoreEnjoyable visit to this museum, located near the seaside.
The museum is great itself but it lacks English descriptions, so non-Japanese visitors can struggle with understanding
MoreGreat! You should visit here !
History stuff. Mainly samurai
Minimalist interior and rich in culture. This museum has wide open spaces and features the colorful traditions of Fukuoka.
MoreI could see various cultures! I studied about Fukuoka on online. But it was not a correct way to know about this city. Im sure you have to come here and enjoy many special stories. And there is a traditional clothes shop to have an experience. There are 3 parts exhibition. It takes around 1 or 2 hours. It was a great time!
MoreThere are ancient exhibits, weapons as katana, scrolls. Also it's not so expensive (200 yen)
MoreI love this museum!!!
I loved learning more about the city of Fukuoka. The permanent exhibit is only ¥200. You can learn all about the history of Fukuoka and Hakata. There are many signs in English and English audio guides available. The cafe is nice too. The food is delicious and the view is great.
MoreLack of English detail. Interesting exhibition.
Entrance fee is only 200 yen. And there are a lot to see. It would be better to check out the events before coming.
MoreGood place for you to learn a thing or two about fukuoka (kurokan) history.
Very nice museum.
Nice environment and family friendly.
The regular exhibition is a bit boring, basic history. But it still worth a trip to see the gold seal (金印), and this visitation there was a special exhibition of 玲木春信 and Japanese ghost paintings, the entry fee is quite expensive but worth the price.
MoreCool museum...after viewing, a nice place to relax.
Pleasant, family-friendly. Check out the Asian culture room featuring costumes, musical instruments, etc. which you can experience hands-on.
MoreI need an effort to reach there. Long walking from subway station of Nishijin. Pweh fortunately I found this museum and awesome. There's dakon/congklak, traditional game from my country ; Indonesia. It is located near fukuoka tower. At that time I watched Samurai Exhibition, good to know
Moregorgeous
Plenty to see for 200yen. Gives a good history of Fukuoka.
Nice quiet museum. Near Fukuoka tower. There's a restaurant/caf inside the museum. Loved the wall painting of the whole of Fukuoka. They actually allow children to touch and feel some of the musical instruments from a few countries and also wear their country costumes. Can see Malaysian kite (Wau) and Songket.
MoreThe Fukuoka City Museum is a nice and clear museum. Located in the Seaside Momochi Area, this museum is one of the famous tourist spots of Fukuoka City such as Fukuoka Tower and Momoshi Seaside Park.Fukuoka City Museum introduces the history in Fukuoka, which has developed as a hub of international exchanges in the Asian Region since ancient times, the national treasure and permanently exhibits the gold seal. The Signature Gold seal “replica” is one of the popular museum items for souvenir.
MoreAmazing Ghibli Exhibition
Very interesting exhibit. I'm impressed
Amazing Pippi exhibition.
